REAMS was appointed by Spirit Energy, part of Centrica, to carry out a full technical appraisal of the HVAC systems serving the four Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) rooms at one of their refinery locations.
During a period of prolonged high outdoor ambient temperatures, the maximum operating temperatures for the UPS appliances were exceeded, which had resulted in operational service failures.
REAMS was tasked with investigating the reasons behind the failures as well as a detailed investigation into the operation of the fire detection systems. During the investigation, remote temperature recording and monitoring devices were installed in each of the UPS rooms for a pre-defined duration and then compared with temperatures provided by Spirit Energy to ascertain normal operating conditions.
Detailed data analysis reports were produced as part of the outputs given to Spirit Energy. REAMS was then able to provide the client with specific improvement recommendations to both the systems and operational processes.
Objectives:
Technical appraisal of original design brief for each UPS location and report
Carry out airflow/volume testing of HVAC systems and compare to original design parameters
Assess impact and effectiveness of post installation modifications to original HVAC system
Review and assessment of current fire detection system
Outcomes:
HVAC and fire detection systems reviewed
Detailed reports on findings produced
Recommendations for improvements for HVAC and fire detection systems produced
